Update July 19th 2021

*Lensfield Medical Practice continues to offer convenient and flexible ways of receiving a consultation with your practice team:

1.       Online consultations via our website.

2.      Telephone Appointments with an appropriate clinician.

3.      Face to Face appointments with your GP or Nursing team.

We are asking all patients to provide a clear Lateral Flow Test prior to coming in to the practice. Tests can be collected from your local pharmacy and we all need to do this to keep you, our patients in the waiting room and us safe. All practice staff are tested on a regular basis.

Please bear with us as we are dealing with an increased workload post-covid, please support surgery staff as we try to manage your medical needs. Contacting us appropriately means patients can get better access and service from us.

We value patient choice and continue to offer care based on clinical need. Lensfield Medical Practice is delighted to be undertaking the largest vaccination programme in the history of the NHS. Operating out of Clay Farm in Trumpington we have already delivered over 10,000  vaccinations. We are balancing this programme with continuing to be open and managing other clinical needs. Please do be reassured that we continue to be here for you and will determine how best to support you.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Improving lives through excellence in healthcare

Your team at Lensfield Medical Practice

Lensfield Medical Practice is a long established Cambridge GP surgery, providing a full range of medical services to over 12,500 patients in the Cambridge city centre.

We are also happy to accommodate all Cambridge University College and Anglia Ruskin students.

All patients are registered with a named GP who is responsible for their holistic health care. We actively encourage patients to book appointments with their registered GP or “usual” GP. There is evidence that when your GP is familiar with your case your health outcomes are better. This is particularly true for older adults and those with long-term health conditions.

This means that in order to see or speak to your usual GP you may need to wait a few days for an appointment, this is likely to be more helpful for you rather than speaking sooner to a doctor who does not know you very well.

However if your problem needs more immediate attention then you will be offered an appointment that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All patients requesting on-the-day access to a GP or nurse will have their request triaged very quickly by a GP who will offer an appointment within a clinically safe time frame and with the right clinician.

We have a multi-disciplinary health care team: as well and doctors and nurses we have a minor illness nurse, two clinical pharmacists, a first contact physiotherapist and a social prescribing link worker.

We are a training practice where doctors gain experience in general practice before sitting their exams to qualify as a GP. We also teach medical students from Cambridge University and nursing students from Anglia Ruskin University which means that you may meet students working with the practice team when you have an appointment.

Disabled Facilities

We have an accessible practice with suitable toilet and consulting rooms. If you are unable to climb stairs or need help please tell reception on arrival.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly. Our nurses are best placed to answer travel vaccine queries, most minor illness and minor injuries and will take phone call consultations.

Telephone Advice

We offer telephone appointments with practice doctors and nurses. The receptionist will arrange a time window for the to call

Training Practice

Because we are a training practice, we sometimes have Cambridge University Medical Students sitting in with the doctors. The receptionist will let you know if this is so.

If you do not wish the students to attend your consultation, please say.

Extended Access

We are pleased to announce the start of our Extended Hours Service. GP and Nurse appointments will be offered Sat 08:00 - 20:00 and Sun 08:00 - 14:00 in addition to weekday evenings 18:00 - 22:00.

The service is run by our local GP Network. CGPN is a collaboration of Cambridgeshire Practices formed to enable us to offer our patients greater choice and extended practice hours. This service operates from:

Nuffield Road Medical Centre, 10 Pippin Dr, Cambridge CB4 1GL

To book an appointment please call the practice and ask reception.

Text Reminder Service - Suspended during COVID-19 Pandemic

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

There are also other services available to help ill people remain in their own home. Sometimes it is more appropriate to use one of these services rather than see a doctor although a doctor would arrange this for you.
